I’ve been listening to a lot more music from the 2010s recently. Call it nostalgia or yearning for simpler times; the reasons why are irrelevant. While driving to work one day, the thought crossed my mind of albums that were incredibly underrated or overrated in hindsight. These albums get a lot of attention generally, being “products of a time” (used in a derogatory way) or “cult classics”, as if anyone sane wants to be in a cult. But what about the boring middle ground, albums that were accurately rated and hold up after the dust has settled and the artist dies, moves on, or retires? I made some criteria
- Select 3 albums
- MUST be from 2010 – 2019
- Had to have been well-received when released
- NO albums associated with other forms of media (soundtracks, etc)
- If an album sucked and still sucks, that’s not impressive.
I listened to the top 3 multiple times beyond the other contenders before settling. Result? Almost unexpected to me, one was obvious when I look back but nevertheless…
Because the Internet – Childish Gambino
1989 – Taylor Swift
IGOR – Tyler, The Creator
Yeah.
